I haven't updated this thing in forever. I'm on Facebook more than Livejournal these days, though i still make it a point to catch up by scrolling through my friends page here on a fairly regular basis.
I teach English literature at a Montreal cégép (pre-university college), and i specialize in postmodernism, metafiction, satire, genre fiction and comics as literature. I'm still a bit of a newbie, but i already feel right at home. It's a dream job on so many levels.
I'm a writer, though unpublished for now. I'm roughly halfway through writing a novel that makes me very happy, and i'm about to start work on a few comic scripts i've been planning for a few months now. I'm a chronic doodler, but my skills in that department are pretty limited, so i'll likely be looking to team up with an artist to make those comics a reality.
I'm also a rapper/producer/singer/songwriter, recording and performing strange but hopefully catchy music under the name Rockefort F. Loopfrog (see my myspace). I've self-released an album and played a few shows, but i'll be the first to admit that i'm little more than a hobbyist on this front.
Politically, i'm concerned but often not as active and informed as i could be, largely due to a fair bit of pessimism and more than a touch of laziness. I do believe in the power of actively changing discourse, though, through art, entertainment, journalism and education. It may be slow and subtle, but it's ultimately necessary, i think. You've got little hope of really changing people's minds about specific issues until you've gotten them to re-examine and change some of their more fundamental assumptions and beliefs. The world needs good teachers and good writers as well as dedicated activists. That's how i hope to contribute.
My beloved girlfriend/bestfriend/lover/partner-in-crime is Emily (aka hyperallergina). I love her more than any of you can imagine.
Also, i dare you to spend more than five minutes with my cats Decibelle and The Narrator without at some point giggling and/or swooning. Anyone who manages to pull it off is clearly a robot.
